The social responsibility of journalists, scientists and artists lies in a critical examination of the world.

Markus Reuter has been a research assistant at the Journalism Department since 2017. His teaching and research focuses on the history, theory, and aesthetics of fictional as well as documentary filmic forms. Markus Reuter is also responsible for the areas of study office and subject advising in the B.A minor "Audiovisual Publishing" at the Journalism Department.

Markus Reuter studied film studies, journalism and philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the Charles University in Prague. He earned a master's degree in film studies and is currently pursuing his doctorate in film studies under the working title "In Search of a Better Life - Utopian Impulses of Cinematic Aesthetics as an Alternative to Neoliberal Logos."

Markus Reuter entered the world of (print) media via an apprenticeship in publishing and subsequent employment at a medium-sized Cologne-based publishing house. He then moved on to the audiovisual media through internships at "News am Morgen" (RTL) and in the event editorial department of ZDF. Before finishing his studies, he started working as a program coordinator for the goEast - Festival of Central and Eastern European Film in Wiesbaden, first as a volunteer for the German Film Institute - DIF and later as a freelance mediator of film culture. He remained loyal to the festival in the same function for many years before returning to the JGU to study "Audiovisual Publishing".
