Journalism requires attitude, which is why it is more than just a profession.

Sabine Kieslich has been (except for two years when she worked for Media Studies in Tübingen) a research associate at the Journalism Department since 2007. Her teaching and research focus on journalistic forms of presentation and the separation of editorial and advertising. She is also responsible for the library and the student advisory service at the Department of Journalism.

She studied at the University of Mainz. There she earned a degree in communication science (Magister) and another in journalism (Master). She received her PhD at the Department of Journalism with the dissertation “The recognizability of editorially designed advertisements in consumer magazines: an experimental investigation”(„Die Erkennbarkeit von redaktionell gestalteten Anzeigen in Publikumszeitschriften: eine experimentelle Untersuchung”). Sabine Kieslich started her professional life with an apprenticeship as a bookseller. During her studies in journalistic science, she worked as a freelance editor for Falken-Verlag in Taunus, which published guidebooks and was later taken over by Bertelsmann. After graduating, she joined Bertelsmann in Munich on a permanent basis. Because editorial supervision of guidebooks with titles such as “Cooking with the Moon” did not always make her happy, she returned to Mainz in 2002 to study at the Department of Journalism for a second time. During her studies, she worked freelance for book publishers (Bassermann, White Star) and newspapers/magazines (including AZ, FAZ, Wirtschaftsjournalist). Today she dedicates herself with full commitment to
journalism education.
