’Be first, but first be right’: When everything is getting faster and faster, journalists must be able to wait. Not to be the first with a story, but to be the first to tell it right.

Susanne Vollstädt joined the Journalism Department as a research assistant in the summer semester of 2017. Her teaching and research focus on audio-visual journalism, online journalism and multimedia formats. She also conducts research on the question of the distribution and quality of school newspapers and their influence on the media usage behaviour of young people. Susanne Vollstädt is responsible for the coordination of CampusTV, JGU’s university television.
As a multimedia editor and freelance journalist, Susanne Vollstädt works for Hessischer Rundfunk (hessenschau.de).

Susanne Vollstädt studied economic and social geography, public law and political science at Johannes Gutenberg University. In 2001, she graduated with a diploma. In the winter semester 2016/17, she received a teaching assignment in the Audio-visual Publishing (AVP) program.

After completing her studies, Susanne Vollstädt completed an 18-month editorial traineeship at the Hessischer Rundfunk with stations at the ARD capital studio in Berlin and the correspondent studio in Brussels.
She then worked for ten years as a television and video journalist for the Hessischer Rundfunk. In 2005, she was awarded the Herbert Quandt Media Prize for the business series “Hessen in Betrieb.”
In 2012, she switched to online journalism as a writer and duty editor at hessenschau.de. Here, she contributed to the multimedia project “Practice test Integration: Refugees in Neu-Isenburg,” which was honoured with a commendation by the jury of the Hessian Journalism Award in 2016.
