Thomas Hartmann has been working since 1992 as a research associate at the Department of Journalism. In addition to general management, he is responsible for study, course and exam management, subject advising and editorial internships in the master’s program in journalism.

Thomas Hartmann studied communication science, sociology and psychology at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. In 1983, he completed his master’s degree with a study on the essential and arbitrary elements of visual stereotypes. From 1983 to 1989 he was a research assistant and lecturer, and from 1989 to 1990 he was managing director at the Department of Communication at the University of Mainz. In 1994, he received his doctorate under Hans Mathias Kepplinger with an experimental study on the cumulative effect of press photos and press releases.
