Professional equipment for professional training

Practical media work is essential for journalistic training, and this is only possible with up-to-date media technology. That is why the Department of Journalism has editorial offices with state-of-the-art equipment, radio studios and video editing suites in the Domus Universitatis. In addition, students can use various mobile recorders, cameras and notebooks for their projects. For example, all students receive a small portable audio recorder for the duration of their radio training.

In our two radio studios, students can produce their own content and broadcasts with several presenters and guests in a professional environment and learn all processes in radio production from start to finish. Two additional production and recording suites are available in-house for smaller projects. Here the students can work with the industry standard radio software DigAS (database and audio editing) and mAirList (broadcast sequence control). The DAWs Reaper and ProTools are also available for more complex audio projects.

Cameras and video editing

The School of Journalism provides students with professional Panasonic UHD camcorders, foto and compact cameras, as well as numerous sound and lighting accessories. Thus, students can choose from a wide selection of microphones, external audio recorders and lighting fixtures. We provide accessories like stabilizers, stands and audio gear for mobile reporting with own equipment and mobile phones. There are seven stationary editing suites at two locations across Mainz equipped with the latest Avid Media Composer. In addition, students can use mobile HP workstations for editing on the road and at home or work with their own devices thanks to the Avid Learning Affiliate Programme, we're part of.

Television studio

In cooperation with the Zentrum für Audiovisuelle Produktion and OKTV Mainz the School of Journalism gives students the opportunity to carry out real life studio productions. A fully equipped television studio with four camera units is available at the "Medienhaus" in Wallstraße for this purpose.

Our network - achieving more together

Together with our partners at Medienhaus, we offer students access to a wide range of technical and creative possibilities. From mobile reporting and podcasts to live events on television and the internet, we offer expertise and equipment for (almost) every wish.
