International cooperation and study abroad
Studying abroad means gaining important new experiences. For aspiring journalists, it is an opportunity to broaden their view of the world. The School of Journalism supports its students in going abroad for a semester. Since JGU Mainz sees itself as a European and international university in its mission statement, the International Office also helps them.
Europe
All students of the Master's programme in Transnational Journalism spend their first year of study in Paris. Students on the Master's programme in Journalism can apply for Erasmus places for a shorter stay in Sweden at Södertörn University (Stockholm). There are also opportunities for exchange within the framework of the Forthem programme, a university alliance funded by Erasmus. This alliance includes universities in Finland, France, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Romania and Spain.
USA
The School of Journalism in Mainz has an exchange programme with the University of Memphis in Tennessee and its Department of Journalism and Strategic Media. Funded by the DAAD, three AVP and three Master's students can study at the University of Memphis for one semester each year. They can choose from a variety of courses, including practical ones. In return, US students and lecturers come to Mainz for at least one month. The exchange was founded more than 20 years ago on the initiative of ZDF, which continues to be one of the supporters.
