Language certificates
For a successful application, you will need proof of your language skills in addition to proof of a Bachelor’s degree or a degree from a university in Germany or abroad. You can find an overview of the required language certificates in this PDF document (in German). Please note that the language certificates must not be older than three years at the time of application and certify at least the language level B2.
Aptitude test
After a successful formal application, you will be invited to our aptitude test.
The aptitude test consists of two parts. At the beginning of the aptitude test,
you will take a written test - you will write two journalistic texts, one in French and one in
German. You will also take a knowledge test. After successfully passing this first part, you
will be invited to a personal interview for the second part of the aptitude test. Here you
will have the opportunity to introduce yourself personally and to talk to the programme
representatives in German and French.
The written part of the aptitude test for the Master's in Transnational Journalism
will take place on 10 and 11 June 2024 in person, the oral part of the aptitude test (date to
be announced) will take place online via video conference.
To prepare for the aptitude test, we recommend that you brush up on your basic
knowledge of German and French history, culture, politics and Franco-German relations. Keep up
to date with the latest news from both countries and from Europe and familiarise yourself with
writing journalistic texts in both languages, in particular by regularly reading the press
from both countries.
Failure to take one of the tests will result in exclusion from the selection
procedure.
